Psalm 27:11 (ESV): 11  Teach me your way, O Lord,

and lead me on a level path

because of my enemies.

Abba,

Is this a prayer we pray often enough?

We face the danger of enemies all around us every day of our lives!  The adversary, like a lion, prowls about seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8).

We have grown too complacent.  We forget the struggle and the battle that we are in.  We are at war!  Life should not be easy.  If it is, we are not engaged in the struggle as we ought and the adversary has already won, having coaxed us into apathy, indifference, and complacency.  Growth towards you, Abba, will always be met with resistance.  Maturity as disciples will always be met with opposition.  For not only will we face it in our own personal lives, but as maturing disciples, we will be linking arms with other disciples and struggling alongside them in theirs.  And there is never an end to the line of battle worn, battle defeated men and woman crushed under the weight of the war.

If we have not come to the place in our lives or our investment in the lives of others, where we recognize our complete and utter dependency upon your wisdom and leading, then we have not invested deep enough yet.  If we still cling to our own knowledge, our own sufficiency, then we have not truly entered the trenches of life.

Abba, our wisdom is too small.   Too feeble.  Too anemic.  The depth and vastness of who you are will not even been dented after we have entered your presence and been there for a billion years.  It is good that we will have an eternity because that is what it will take to exhaust the depths of your vastness.  We need this depth, this vastness.  We need your wisdom for ours is woefully insufficient to lead and guide us through the days of our lives, against a formidable adversary, and to grant hope in the darkness and brokenness of our sinful and fallen world.

We need to pray this prayer!

We need to rearrange our lives to become students of your word; to become prayer warriors of the kingdom of light; to live as men and women devoted to you and your leading.

We face an adversary who, while not too powerful and formidable for you, is devastatingly destructive for our weak and powerless selves.

Oh Abba, that we would pray this prayer!

That we would humble ourselves and seek you!

That we would grasp the depth of danger we face from the adversary!

That we would gasp and marvel at the depth of your nature and be drawn to plunge into the depths of you, soaking up everything we can learn and witness from your almighty and wonderful being!

Abba, may the depth of your person and the danger of the enemy compel us to pray….

Psalm 27:11 (ESV): 11  Teach me your way, O Lord,

and lead me on a level path

because of my enemies.

We love you Abba,

Amen.
