Pondering Christmas and Your Use of Man’s Sin

Abba,

Pondering the Christmas season this morning, Paul Tripp’s words of mediation resounded with me.

“Ponder the fact that God was willing to control the events of world history to bring this world to the place where conditions were right for Jesus to come, simply because we had no power whatsoever to help ourselves out of our desperate state. Humanity was so incredibly messed up that there was only one solution for us: God himself!”

Yet another example of how you use man’s sin to accomplish your purpose.  In fact, the only way to put to death an innocent man is to use the sinfulness of man to do so.  A perfect, just, and righteous man would not have done so.  The sin of man was a necessary tool in slaying the perfect Lamb of God to satisfy Your Wrath against the very sins that were used to put Him there on that cross.

In fact, the entrance of sin into your creation is required for your plan of gospel grace, sacrificial redemption, powerful reconciliation to take place. All of creation existed for this moment.  You created the world and us to know you and enjoy you.  The pinnacle of this plan necessitate the entrance of sin into the world.  It would inevitably involve the sin of man to bring us to this point…the death of the very Son of God…in order to expose the depth of grace, mercy, justice, and holiness of our creator and lead us to deep, eternal enjoyment of you!  Sin is a necessary evil.  But not one that is beyond your might to redeem and use as instruments for your glory!

Therefore, you had to control the events of history to shape it in such a way as to provide the necessary conditions for such a heinous crime against the Son of God.  This required that you use man’s sinfulness as part of your plan.  Sin under which man still stands condemned under unless they repent.  Sin for which you died.  Sin, which you defeated.  Sin, which you forgive upon repentance and faith in you.  The very sins you use to accomplish your plan of glory, you died to forgive.  Oh that we, your creation, would repent and embrace the forgiveness offered to us!

Glorious is your power, might, and wisdom to use that which is abominable to you to expose, reveal, and declare your worth!

You are genius and beautiful, Abba! You are good and true! There is none like you, my King!
