Why bother?

The question was posed

The inquiry resounded

An expose I could have written

Why bother?

My words and emotions

Reflected back at me

From sheets of white

The world is broken

Hurt filled

Despair darkened

Feels like too much

Though my mind speaks truth

The heavy burden

Of Grief’s suspended shadow

Threatens to blind the truth

Why bother?

How many have I heard

Utter these fateful words?

How often from my own heart?

Why bother?

It feels too much

Little seems to change

At least quickly or significantly

And so the question hangs

Why fight?

Why resist?

Why contend?

Why bother?

Why try?

Why continue?

When resignation promises rest.

The answer is simple

Profound

True

Right

Because

You Are

And

Because You are good

Your existence

The truth of your being

The Great I Am

The deep reality of You

You alone

You are enough

Transcendently so

Imminently so

And Even more

Than just Your being

It is the quality

Of Your being

You are good

Righteous

Holy

True

You make the fight worth it

You promise peace

Relief and refuge

You promise joy and restoration

Why bother?

Because you are

And

You are good

Yes, the battle rages

The world suffers

We hurt

We grow weary

But we bother

Because you are worth it

You are good

You Are

Let our eyes

Ever and always

Be not fixed on the problem

But be focused on the solution

May You be ever and always

The balm for a hurting heart

The tender touch of hope

The firm embrace of strength

Be hope in our darkness

Refuge in opposition

Joy in sorrow

And a promise in the night

You are the reason

The unfailing truth

The steadfast foundation

Of why we bother.

You Are

AND

You Are Good.
