He Will Hold Me Fast
When I fear my faith will fail
Christ will hold me fast
When the tempter would prevail
He will hold me fast
I could never keep my hold
Through life’s fearful path
For my love is often cold
He must hold me fast
He will hold me fast
He will hold me fast
For my Savior loves me so
He will hold me fast
Those He saves are His delight
Christ will hold me fast
Precious in His holy sight
He will hold me fast
He’ll not let my soul be lost
His promises shall last
Bought by Him at such a cost
He will hold me fast
He will hold me fast
He will hold me fast
For my Savior loves me so
He will hold me fast
For my life He bled and died
Christ will hold me fast
Justice has been satisfied
He will hold me fast
Raised with Him to endless life
He will hold me fast
Till our faith is turned to sight
When he comes at last
He will hold me fast
He will hold me fast
For my Savior loves me so
He will hold me fast
He will hold me fast
He will hold me fast
For my Savior loves me so
He will hold me fast

Abba,
2 Corinthians 12:7–10 (ESV): 7 So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
I both love and hate these words.
LOVE because they remind me of your great grace to meet me in my time of need.
HATE because they make known to me that trouble will not always be removed from me.
LOVE because they remind me my sufficiency is not in self, but in You.
HATE because they reveal to me that the suffering and trials of life are often part of your plan for me.
LOVE because they remind me that I do not walk alone in this life.
HATE because they expose the weakness of my flesh and are a blow to my fleshly pride.
LOVE because they are expose the weakness of flesh and are a below to my fleshly pride! 🙂
HATE because they indicate a surety of trial in this life.
LOVE because they promise me I do not have to battle in my strength but in yours.
HATE because they reveal that you have purposed to permit the struggle and to permit it to persist when all I want is relief.
LOVE because you have a purpose in permitting the struggle and permitting it to persist and that it will not all be in vain or wasted.
HATE for the sorrow and grief that is caused
BUT LOVE in that leaning upon you through the struggle develops intimacy and oneness in a way blessing and abundance does not.
But for a flesh that wants relief, deliverance, and peace…the certainty of trial and hardship is NOT welcome news.
But since that is a certain reality, IT IS WELCOME NEWS that You fight for me.
THUS, the lyrics of this song, He Will Hold Me Fast were a powerful reminder.
It is not ME who holds me.
It is YOU who hold me.
My security is not me but you.
AND THIS IS A COMFORT; for my strength is weak but yours is omnipotent!
My hope is not in me, not in this fickle, fleeting, and flawed flesh. My hope is in the eternal and divine hand of THE ONY God…You!
Let me today, this very day, rest in that changeless truth and find joy in the struggle as YOU Hold Me Fast; Your strength being sufficient to keep me safe.
