The whole of the church

The expanse of the body

The multitude of followers

Over the long centuries

Cannot contain the whole

Of your person

But that does not stop

You from making your

Home with us

That does not prevent

You from coming near

And dwelling with us

You have made us your temple

The temple of THE living God

The dwelling place of the Almighty

We are your habitation

Separate, set apart

For you

You have come near

To walk among us

To be our God

Personal and intimate

To make us your people

To dwell with us

The whole of the church

The expanse of the body

The multitude of followers

Over the long centuries

Cannot contain the whole

Of your person

But that does not stop

You from making Your

Home among us

A Father to us

We, sons and daughters to you

A shared lineage; kindred forever

How incomprehensible is it

That for all eternity

We share in a divine lineage

Progeny through adoption

Of Almighty God

Sovereign King and Creator

A transcendent God

Come near

A completely other being

Incomparable

Distinct

One of a Kind

Imminent and close

Dwelling with

And In His created thing

Making the finite

His home

To desire nearness

What a wonder!

What a mystery!

What glory is He

Who would come down

To dwell with us

And make us His!

2 Corinthians 6:16-18

2 Corinthians 6:16–18 (ESV): 16 What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said,

“I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them,

and I will be their God,

and they shall be my people.

17  Therefore go out from their midst,

and be separate from them, says the Lord,

  and touch no unclean thing;

then I will welcome you,

18  and I will be a father to you,

and you shall be sons and daughters to me,

says the Lord Almighty.”
