What strength do I possess?
What might can I claim?
What greatness can I boast?
Can I claim to hold life?
Can I be the steward of life and death?
Can these hands of mind contain the essence of existence?
Can these hands be the keepers of the breath of life?
Can they preserve and protect that which all mankind yearn to control?
Do they have the power to grant being?
How do I fathom these words?
“In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind.” Job 12:10
A man’s actions may implant seed
Those actions may produce fertilization
And life may result
But where does that life come from?
Who oversees the importation of life?
Who causes it to be?
A man’s actions may be part of the process
but who grants that the act actually produce life?
It is most assuredly NOT of the man
It is NOT within us as the created thing
Apart from YOUR divine hand, no life shall be
No breath shall be taken
We are not the givers of life
The stewards of being
Were it not for your doing, life would simply not be
What a wonder this is!
A wonder that often feels lost
In a world of familiarity
YOU hold life in your hands, Abba.
YOU hold breath in your fingertips
It is kept in YOUR clutching embrace
You dispense it as you will
YOU are the keeper of life
By the strength of YOUR hand
Life is.
Amen. We have some part in certain things, but even that is in His power and initiation.
