Psalm 6:title–4 (ESV): O Lord, Deliver My Life
6 To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments; according to The Sheminith. A Psalm of David.
1 O Lord, rebuke me not in your anger,
nor discipline me in your wrath.
2 Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing;
heal me, O Lord, for my bones are troubled.
3 My soul also is greatly troubled.
But you, O Lord—how long?
4 Turn, O Lord, deliver my life;
save me for the sake of your steadfast love.

Why do I seek mercy?
For what reason do I seek grace?
Sin makes life hard
Sin brings only misery
Moments of pleasure and delight
Mask the destructive rot
But it is there
Insidious and invasive
Sin hurts
Sin makes life hard
It robs of joy and peace
It fills with fear and shame
So I ask
Why do I seek mercy?
For what reason do I seek grace?
Do I seek for my own comfort?
Do I seek for my own relief?
Have I found a way
To make forgiveness about me?
Am I using grace and mercy
For self serving ends?
Am I abusing
That which was intended for your glory?
Forgiveness
Mercy
Grace
Love
These were always intended
To make much of you
These were always intended
To reveal the supreme worth of you
They were never aimed primarily
At my comfort or pleasure
David understood this
He prayed for forgiveness
Not for his benefit primarily
But for the glory of your name
Above all
This was his concern
Is it mine?
Why do I seek mercy?
For what reason do I seek grace?
Is the proclamation of your glory
My highest delight?
Is the masking of your glory
My greatest shame?
Is the elevation of your worth
My greatest pursuit?
Is the degradation of your beauty
My greatest sin?
Is my greatest discomfort
My deepest displeasure
Found in the damage done to your
Name through my sin?
Or does my fleshly comfort
Top the list?
Why do I seek mercy?
For what reason do I seek grace?
Oh that my greatest passion
Be not my comfort
But your glory and name
May I echo David
A man after your own heart
May I say
May I declare
“Save me for the sake of YOUR
Steadfast love.”
Why do I seek mercy?
For what reason do I seek grace?
Thank you pastor I have a lot to think about.
