Worship tunes the heart
Worship postures our passions rightly
Worship adjusts the focus of our gaze
Worship lifts the eyes
Worship beholds another
“From where does my help come?” (Psalm 121:1)
The question begs an answer.
The flesh, in its turmoil, demands it
The weariness in our bones ache to know
The fear and doubt clamber in desperation
The sorrow and grief long to find out
“I lift my eyes to the hills
From where does my help come?
My help comes from the Lord
Who made heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121:1-2)

It is impossible to find help
It is impossible to see hope
It is impossible….
Without looking up
In worship
“He will not let your foot be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber
Behold, he who keeps Israel
Will neither slumber nor sleep
The Lord is your keeper;
The Lord is your shade on your right hand
The sun shall not strike you by day
Nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all evil
He will keep your life
The Lord will keep
Your going out and your coming in
From this time and forevermore.” (Psalm 121:3-8)
Until you look up
Unless you look up
Hopelessness and helplessness remain
Until you look up
Unless you look up
Trouble and trial retain their vice grip
Worship reorients our heart
Humbles our disposition
Renews our confidence
Reinforces our hope
And grants peace in the one who holds all.
Worship strengthens trust
Emboldens supplication
Reorients our request and desires
And draws us near to the one
Whose help is freely offered.
Worship finds rest for the weary soul
Worship finds comfort in the Divine’s embrace
Worship submits to the Almighty’s plan
Worship leads us to our Abba, Father.
Whose loving care is uncontested
In our weary striving
Our debilitating sorrow
Our enchained struggle
In our pain and hurt
Our disillusionment
And dark depression….
LOOK UP!
In WORSHIP!
May we permit
Worship to retune our heart
To reposture our stance
To adjust our focus
To lift our down cast gaze
That we might behold him
From whom our help comes.
