1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:1–5 (ESV)
14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. 16 For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham. 17 Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
Hebrews 2:14-18 (ESV)
Abba,
This has to be the most profound reality of all. Jesus BECAME HUMAN. You designed Your plan in such a way that You, God, became LIKE US, Your created thing, in order that You might be better equipped to engage in intimate fellowship with us. You became LIKE us in order to better serve us, to better be OUR faithful high priest, interceding and pleading FOR us. You became LIKE us so that you could serve as the propitiation (satisfaction) for Your own wrath against OUR sins. You became LIKE US so that You could save us and be intimate with us.
You became like us before You expected us to become like You.
You became like us in order that You might make it possible for us to become like you.
You came near to us so that we could come near to You.
You became human so that we could become holy.
Thank You, Abba, for coming near for the likes of us!
We love you!
Amen!
