He was despised and rejected by men,

a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;

and as one from whom men hide their faces

he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

 The Holy Bible: English Standard Version (Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles, 2016), Is 53:3.

“Because he was a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief, Jesus is uniquely qualified to to wipe away every tear (Revelation 21:4).” Christopher Powers

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

 The Holy Bible: English Standard Version (Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles, 2016), Re 21:4.

Abba,

There is not a grief too deep for You to comprehend.  There is not a sorrow You have not experienced.  Yours are the deepest, the bitterest.  You know sorrow and grief like no other.  Truthfully, when the day comes for You to wipe away every tear, every sorrow…no one will be more delighted than You.  You will delight in removing those burdens from us.  You will sing and shout when You remove that which the curse placed upon us.  You will cleanse Your creation of this intruder once and for all.

So, until that day, we look on in hope, and joy, trusting You to have mercy in our suffering so that we are  not destroyed by it.  We LOOK UP in hope and faith trusting that even now, You are giving comfort, holding back the waves of crippling sorrow and grief, and giving us mercy to bear up under a world overwhelmed with grief.  Even now, you wipe the tears from our eyes with your rough but tender hands.  Even now, you wrap us in the embrace of Your Spirit and give comfort to us.  We may be waiting for the final removal; we may be waiting for the day when our faith becomes sight, when we will see and experience in the flesh what we only know see dimly through faith…but we are not without comfort and help NOW in the in-between.  You are here. With us.  And your comfort and strength knows no bounds.

So we cling.  We LOOK UP and we PRESS ON in the strength of Your comfort now and in the hope of that which is yet to come.
