When human wisdom
would ring melodious in our ears

Will Your word
silence the music’s tantalizing spheres?

When human knowledge 
would sound with logical sense

Will Your Spirit’s whisper
mute the words in gracious defense?

When our eyes would wander
into the world’s treacherous way

Will Your living word
be our guard and stay?

When our view gets obstructed 
by man’s many a foolish word

Will heaven’s righteous perspective 
keep our stride  from following the herd?

When the wind of worldly wisdom
threatens to set us adrift

Will Your word mean all
and keep us from the deadly lift?

When we would be lured
drawn away and enticed

Will we lean on the precious words
of our loving Lord and Christ?

When we want to trust self
acting as we alone do see

Will we have eyes to behold
the Living Words of Life with exuberant glee?
