Luke 2:13-14

Abba,

King of Peace

Sovereign of Rest

Perfecter of Harmony

What a wonder it is—the lengths to which You have gone to secure peace with men.  With me.

Who am I, who are we, that we merit such attention from You?

We are nobody.  And that is precisely the point.  It’s not about my merit, but rather about Yours.

When You secure peace with man, it spotlights Your worth and value.  And the lower You reach—to me—to us—the loftier Your worth shines; the greater Your worth is shown to be!  So, You reached as low as You could in order that the excellencies of Your name would be seen for what they are.

Oh, that the reality of Your worth would capture my heart like it ought.  Oh, that the beauty of Your person would be the wonder of my soul!  Oh, that the majesty of Your presence would captivate me and save me from the pursuit of inferior appetites.   I fear those affections. I fear their empty pursuits and dead end roads.  I fear that this fickle flesh still craves them so.

God of Peace, be my Redeemer, my Deliverer.  Be my Refuge.  Be the Peace of my heart.  Keep me at peace with You and deliver me from this conflict; this war of passions raging in my flesh.  Give me peace with myself—the same peace I have with You.  May it be singular and focused.  Unwavering.  Let my heart ever and always be at peace in its desire for You.

Amen.
