Luke 2:8-12

Where is fear
when God is near?
in the face of what, must we tremble
when, before God, we assemble?
Heaven came low
to dwell with us below.
Heaven slept in a feed trough
So that we would not be cut off.
Fear has no power here
when heaven draws this near.
We can sleep in peace—
in the comfort of release,
the same as heaven’s child
in that manger so mild.
Precisely because He did come
and in His nearness overcome,
fear has lost its power.
We, no more, need to cower.
Death’s final defeat
destroys the enemies beat.
His resurrection has, forevermore
slammed judgments dour door.
So,
Where is fear
when God is near?
It is—breathtakingly—no more,
buried by grace forevermore.
