Luke 2:10-12

Maker of Heaven and Earth
Eternal One of infinite worth—
Suckling at created breast,
Satisfied and at rest.
Omnipotence cradled and fed
Limitless strength in terrible weakness—wed.
Omniscience at contented ease
Snuggled by that which is—by His own decrees.
The created—providing for the Creator.
The helpless—tending the Mediator.
What an unlikely contrast
For One existing since eternity past.
Jesus, more human than Adam ever could be,
Having never bounced on created mother’s knee.
Adam knew no woman’s breast
Or slept as a babe in arm’s rest.
Adam knew no childhood drama
Or felt the rebuke of papa or mama.
The Creator of the world
Was into His creation hurled
Knowing everything that was made
Entering it through condescending retrograde
Adam knew not what it was like
To grow up under sin’s spiteful strike.
And yet, the Initiator of all
Understood—fully—sin’s terrible squall
The Creator, Himself, understood more
Than first man who came before.
In way’s Adam never could be,
You Jesus, are true humanity for me.
God, you truly stepped low
To let Your glory show.
In such meekness You came
That we might delight in Your holy frame.
Wonder of Heaven so glorious,
Whose worth stands so victorious!
