In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; (Ephesians 6:16, ESV)
The shield of faith is not a what, but a who.

Jesus, You are my shield—by faith, my gaze remains steady in attack. What have I to fear?
————————————————
Not by my faith, do I find safety—but by the object of my faith, do I find refuge.
————————————————
With my gaze fixed upward in faith, I stand in the safety and refuge of Jesus, my shield.
————————————————
Whom have I to fear when my faith rests here?
